Awards & Committees

Community Wellness Neighbourhood Development Award

In June 2024, the Dunsmuir Neighbourhood Association received the Community Wellness Neighbourhood    Development Award from the City of Mission during the Social Development Give Back Awards event. This award          honours neighbourhood groups that strengthen community wellbeing, foster connection among residents, and          create inclusive spaces where people feel welcome and supported.

The DNA was recognized for its community-building efforts: bringing neighbours together, reducing isolation, and helping create a sense of belonging in the Dunsmuir area.

Youth in Action – Bert Pulles Memorial Award (Communities in Bloom)

In 2025, the Dunsmuir Urban Collective Garden was selected as one of the recipients of the Youth in Action – Bert Pulles Memorial Award, presented through BC Communities in Bloom. This award recognizes outstanding youth-led or youth-supported community projects within the Mission area.

The award highlighted our bilingual gardening project co-led with the Grade 5 and 6 students from École des Deux Rives. Throughout the school year, students worked hands-on in the garden to help build the large market beds and prepare the space for community use. Their consistent weekly participation made it possible to create a functional, shared food-growing space that now benefits the wider community.

This recognition honours the dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm of the students who helped shape the garden during its formative year. We are incredibly proud of what these young people accomplished and grateful for the opportunity to celebrate their contribution.

Stone Soup Initiative

The DNA is a participating member of the Stone Soup Initiative, a city-supported network focused on improving the wellbeing of people experiencing homelessness. The group collaborates with service providers, advocates, and local organizations to strengthen access to supports and improve coordination across the community.

Mission Food Coalition

The DNA is an active member of the Mission Food Coalition, which brings together

food-related organizations and community partners to improve long-term food sustainability

in Mission. Through the Dunsmuir Urban Collective Garden, the DNA contributes by

supporting education, growing local food, and sharing surplus produce with

community programs.
