ACHIEVEMENTS

  • During February, March & November 2021, Residents held many walk-about to show city council, residents and political figures the fragility of the area and the negative impact a 152 unit development would bring.
  • In March 2021, the neighbourhood petitioned (and won) against the three apartment blocks development proposal on 10th avenue/Stave Lake Street. A motion was passed to look into the Dunsmuir Community getting a LAP (Local Area Plan).

  • In November 2021, City Planners presented a report to council regarding a neighbourhood plan for the "Dunsmuir Neighbourhood".

  • In December 2021, Executive members of the neighbourhood association met with Mayor Horn and city planners to chat about a local area plan; how important it is to protect the creek, wild life and the forested areas. The roads surrounding  the three schools  makes this neighbourhood a school corridor and is very busy with children walking to schools. This area needs developers to conduct TIA (Traffic Impact Assessment).

  • December 2021, Council carried the motion for the “Dunsmuir Community” to get their own Local Area Plan.

  • In April 2022, the third reading of zoning amending bylaw 6067-2021-5949(51) by Council was deferred pending receipt of a TIA at 9th avenue/Stave Lake and the new Hatorri Terrace where the Morningside77 development is proposed. The developer provided the TIA  and on October 3rd 2022 Council voted for the project proceed to third reading. As of December 2022 the developer still has to provide engineering plans to the city and go though third reading.

  • In August 2022, the proposed "Neighbourhood Engagement Policy" report was presented to Council for formal approval. One of it's purpose is requiring developers to meet with the neighbourhood, hold a public consultation before submitting an application to city planners. The policy was adopted on September 6th, 2022.

  • In August 2022, the association sent a letter to City Council requesting a "Block Party Tool Kit". Councillor Davies made a motion for the creation of a tool kit and a grant, it was carried. We should see the Tool Kit for Spring 2023.
